Custom Design and Installation
Specialty Custom Design Elements
These simple upgrades can add a stunningly unique look to any hardwood floor installation. Examples of custom design elements that TLC Custom Design LLC. specializes in are described below:
In addition to the traditional Straight Pattern most commonly seen in New England homes, TLC Custom Design also offers Random Pattern, Diagonal Pattern, and Herringbone/Chevron hard wood floor installation patterns. Patterns can add a specifically distinct style and feel to any room. Herringbone floors are a traditional European floor pattern. They can be installed in several configurations, with or without a border or any of the other design elements below. A particular popular variation of the herringbone, called Chevron is featured in many European castles, palaces, and homes of the nobility built in the late 16th and 17th centuries. An example of TLC Custom Design's installation of a Chevron floor pattern is featured in our banner image at the top of this page.
Borders create a frame effect around the outside of the wood floor or within sections of the wood floor. Borders can be created by using a different wood species than the main floor, stone, tile, glass, marble, brass, stainless steel, nickel or other metals.
Medallions are designs created in the main part of the floor. They can incorporate multiple wood species, stone, metal and leather. Medallions also can be routed into existing floors. A family crest, unique design, or other design element can be created as a focal point in the center of a room, under a specific area (such as a dining room table), or as the center of an entryway.
Distressing creates an antiqued look to a floor. TLC Custom Design LLC. utilizes hand-scraping to achieve a classic worn look.
Painted floors create a unique look and can include features such as borders or any of the other design elements listed above.
Mixed media mixes wood with other flooring materials. Some typical examples are mixing tile or marble in an entryway.
Staining is a very affordable way to give existing wood floors an entirely new look without replacing the existing floor. There are many staining techniques that TLC Custom Design LLC. can use to make a traditional stained wood floor unique. We are happy to bring samples and discuss staining techniques and options.
